Dr Kenneth Thorpe, Chairman, Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) inaugurated the first edition of the Healthcare Sabha with a lamp light ceremony on March 4 2016. He was also accompanied by other senior dignitaries including Navin Mittal, Secretary Finance & Commissioner Government of Telangana, Dr Henk Bekedam, WHO Representative to India, Dr Srinath Reddy, President, Public Health Foundation of India, and Viveka Roychowdhury, Editor, Express Healthcare.
On the second day of the event (March 5 2016), Dr Kenneth Thorpe started off the day with the Keynote Address speaking about the National Blueprint on NCDs – SANKALP– Disha Swasth Bharat Ki. The day opened to a full house, and experts and policy makers congregated to continue their discussions on their vision and strategies to reform public healthcare in India.
In the keynote speech, Dr Thorpe talked about the PFCD work in India over the last few years and the idea behind the making of the Blueprint. He highlighted the growing burden of NCDs in India in terms of health and economy as well as emphasized on the need to implement recommendations from the Blueprint. He also pointed out that NCDs have emerged as one of the major health concerns in India and it is high time to devise strategies which would help tackle these challenges effectively.
On the evening of the second day, Dr Kenneth Thorpe handed over the Express Public Health Awards honouring the visionaries, innovators, and game changers from public healthcare.
